The AC Cobra embodies the perfect marriage of British elegance and American power. Now a legendary automobile, it is the most reproduced car in the world today. Its story began in the early 1960s, when Carroll Shelby, the Texan winner of the 1959 24 Hours of Le Mans, decided to start producing sports cars. He approached the small English company AC Cars, which had been producing a sports roadster called the AC Ace since 1953. Powered by a 1.9L Bristol engine, Shelby decided to fit this small car with a 260ci (4.3L) Ford V8 engine, which immediately gave it character. Thus, the AC Cobra was born.
This was followed by the 289 and 289 FIA versions, which were approved for competition. Apparently, the latter’s 360 horsepower wasn’t enough, so Shelby and his team installed a 7.0L 427ci “Big Block” engine. Produced and reproduced, the Cobra continues to turn heads every time one passes by.
This AC Cobra is a replica made by ERA. Of exceptional quality, it stands out thanks to its 427-type fiberglass bodywork, which is exactly the same size as the original. Its chassis is an ERA design with four cross members and X-shaped reinforcements. The mechanics consist of a 7.0L big block engine coupled with a Tremec TKX gearbox. The engine develops around 480 hp, thanks in particular to two 4-barrel carburetors and two Holley dual pumps. It also adopts all the aesthetic codes: the characteristic Halibrand wheels, the wooden steering wheel, the chrome roll bar, the side pipes, and the lifting hooks at the front and rear. Under the hood is a genuine 427ci V8 that starts at the drop of a hat. The car is registered in France, so awaken the Carroll Shelby in you and treat yourself to a piece of the American dream.
